About Thirsty for Knowledge
Thirsty for Knowledge is an independent encyclopedia of drinks: how to mix a classic cocktail, pull a pint, pour a bottle of beer, brew a proper cup of tea, whisk matcha, make coffee, and blend milkshakes and smoothies.
How we put entries together
- Cocktails marked 'IBA' use the official specification published by the International Bartenders Association, with quantities exactly as the IBA gives them. Where the IBA names a brand, we use the generic ingredient and note the brand it specifies.
- Techniques and figures, such as serving temperatures, brew ratios and pouring methods, come from the organisations that publish them: breweries, industry bodies, tea and coffee companies and equipment makers. Each entry lists its sources.
- House recipes, such as our milkshakes, smoothies, hot chocolates and mocktails, are our own and are labelled as such.
- History is only included where we could check it, and we say so when a story is a claim rather than a fact.
Drinking responsibly
Alcoholic drinks are for adults aged 18 and over, and we never encourage drinking to excess. See our guide to the UK guidelines, and try the alcohol-free mocktails. Milkshakes, smoothies and soft drinks are kept on a separate shelf from the bar.
How the site is funded
Equipment pages link to Amazon.co.uk, and we may earn a commission if you buy through those links. It doesn't change what we write. See the affiliate disclosure.
